Easy Media Creator Suite 9 is an integrated suite where all components look and
behave similarly and interact seamlessly, rather than being a digital
media suite comprised of independent applications.
Home
Home enables you to view, in a logical fashion, the many photo, video,
music, and burning tasks and applications available. From Home you can
choose to enter a product component, launch a task, open a recent project,
or review a tutorial.
Capture
Easy Media Creator Suite 9's Capture component delivers a consistent workflow
regardless of the media type being captured or the digital device being
used.
Background Burning
Unlike many applications, Easy Media Creator Suite 9 enables you to launch
components and complete additional tasks while a burn project is
processing. For example, you can create and print a disc label and cover
for an Audio CD, while the CD is being burned.
Common Editing Tasks
The most commonly used editing tasks are readily available when needed.

SmartScan
Most applications force you to capture the entire contents of your video
camera or manually fast forward and rewind through the tape to find and
copy scenes of interest. Easy Media Creator’s innovative SmartScan feature
saves you time by quickly scanning the DV tape and displaying thumbnail
previews of all the scenes on your camera without actually copying the
content to your hard disk. This allows you to choose which scenes you’d
like to import.
Plug & Burn
Many video camera owners want to be able to create DVDs of their video but
don’t want to become video editors. Plug & Burn enables you to create DVDs
complete with menu and title and even record in Dolby Digital audio with
just two clicks of the mouse!
Edit DVD Disc
Edit DVD disc enables you to add titles to previously created DVDs. Use
this feature to create compilation DVDs of your favorite TV shows recorded
using a set-top DVD Recorder, or to add titles to personal DVDs (i.e.,
DVDs you’ve created consisting of personal photos and video).
StoryBoard
Use StoryBoard to combine your favorite photos, video files, and songs to

Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 9 Home provides an comprehensive overview of
the breadth of functionality the product provides. Home enables you to
view, in a logical layout, the most popular photo, video, music, and
burning tasks as well as the range of applications available. From Home,
you can choose to enter a product component, launch a task, open a recent
project, or review a tutorial.
Media Manager
Media Manager is an all new component that provides a single location for
viewing, organizing, and accessing photos, video files and multi-media
projects.
Folder View
Media Manager offers two views. First, Media Manager provides a standard
Explorer view, called Folders, which is ideal if you are already
comfortable organizing and viewing your media in the Windows folder
system. The added benefit of working in this view within Easy Media
Creator is that you can directly move to editing and creative tasks (e.g.,
you could select a group of photos and select ‘Send To’ PhotoSuite’s
Multi-photo Enhance feature).
Collection View
The second view is called Collections, which is ideal if you have media
scattered and distributed all over your hard disk. Collections will
automatically scan your hard disk and generate an organized view of the
media on your system. Once Collections are compiled, many innovative
features are available that enable you to quickly locate photos, video
files, or Easy Media Creator projects. Included is a calendar view (to
view photo and video files based on the date they were taken), as well as
a powerful search tool (where you can use different criteria such as
properties, or file size to locate a particular file).
Workspace
The Workspace, available in both Folders and Collections view, enables you
to group files together that are contained within different folders or
collections. This is helpful if you would like to create a temporary
grouping of files to use in a creative project, such as a slide show, or
if you wish to print or email a group of files or even create a new
collection.
In-place Preview
The unique in-place preview feature enables you to play video or audio
files clips without leaving Media Manager, or launching a separate preview
window. Just click on the play icon and the audio or video file plays
right in place.
Send To
A great benefit of working within Media Manager is the fact that you can
move directly from organizing and viewing your media, to an edit, share,
or a creative task. In doing so, the Send Selected Items To feature will
pre-populate the task entered with the media pre-selected in Media
Manager.

Disc Copier New or Improved Features
• DVD-Video copy: To enable you to easily copy non-encrypted DVD-Video
• Search function: For automatically locating valid DVD-Video and disc
image files on the hard disk
• Visual view with details: Displays video content as graphic thumbnails
enabling users to quickly distinguish the main movie from other video
content (i.e., extras such as trailers)
• Audio control: To enable users to selectively choose which audio files
to copy from DVD (e.g., copy only English sound track)
• Preview: Preview playback of video content contained on DVD
• Quality/Compression trade-off indicator: Automatically adjusts level of
compression to optimize video quality for space available
Disc Copier, which enables you to make one to one copies of discs, is one
of the most commonly used burning components of Creator. Now, Disc Copier
makes the complex task of working with DVD-Video content trivially easy.
Simple and Advanced Modes
Disc Copier’s main interface is designed to make it easy to create simple
disc-to-disc copies. Disc Copier opens in Simple Mode. Select the source
drive on the left and destination drive on the right. (Note that you can
use the same drive as both source and destination.) Insert your source
disc, and then click the Burn/Copy button.
Copy DVD-Video
With extras such as trailers and out takes, multiple language tracks, in
addition to the main movie, dual-layer DVD-Videos can be over 8GB in size.
Copying this content to a recordable 4.7GB DVD disc requires a high level
of compression that may result in compromised video quality. Disc Copier
clearly outlines video and audio content and provides the option to only
copy content of interest (e.g., you could decide to copy only the main
movie and the English sound track). As a result, less compression will be
required to fit the content on a standard 4.7GB DVD, consequently the
video quality will be higher.
Targeted Customers
Easy Media Creator Suite 9 is the natural, planned successor to Roxio's
already hugely successful Easy Media Creator Suite 8 that will satisfy users who decide to upgrade. This time Roxio
provides much more of a next-generation application rather than a
traditional upgrade. The latest product takes a dramatic leap forward from
the application-based suite approach of previous versions, to a
task-based, single-application suite.
As you can see from the above listed functions, this newest Easy Media
Creator Suite 9 is truly an awesome program, providing just about all the media
creating and storage tools anyone could possibly ever need. With the
program's extremely reasonable price point, I think all customers will
definitely realize super value for their modest investment in this
feature-rich application that belongs on all PCs used for media files.
A major benefit of an integrated suite approach is that users learn a
single workflow and behavior regardless of the digital media task being
accomplished or the media file type being used. Another major benefit is
that the customer knows that all the applications within the suite will
work seamlessly together. As consumers use an increasingly diverse set of
digital media devices, this has become a more important requirement.
Certainly, the existing installed base of Creator customers, which numbers
approximately 100 million users, is an important target for Easy Media
Creator Suite 9. However, with the strengthening of the vertical components in this new suite should enable Roxio to
extend their reach beyond their core to attract consumers considering
stand-alone vertical applications. These consumers will be given cause to
question why they should purchase a single-focused application when they
could get full-range of features for working with any media type for the
same price.
Roxio not only adds features, but it also expends more effort making its
suite easier to use--a daunting task given the sheer number of components
involved. Roxio has made significant progress toward improving its
product's ease of use in version 8, as well as adding features such as a
DVD music disc function and high-resolution video editing. Simple data and
disc-maintenance chores are now easily accessible, and virtually every
component has been imbued with the attractive look and logical workflow
that version 8 introduced. The result is a much more cohesive feel, though
the overlapping capabilities of many modules can still get confusing.
If you want friendly, direct access to your burning functions, go with
Roxio. It now integrates the most common disc tasks--such as simple data
CD/DVD burning, as well as disc copying, erasing, and finalizing--into its
Roxio Home launch module, making those functions simpler to access.
Easy Media Creator Suite 9 is also amped up with new audio features that extend
far beyond basic ripping, encoding, and burning. Roxio's new, brilliantly
simple DVD music disc function is very useful. In this mode, Roxio creates
a DVD movie disc, ditches the video to produce more space for an audio
track (created from imported MP3s and other audio files), and uses the DVD
menu to sort and provide access to the tunes. You can fit far more music
on a 4.7GB DVD than on an audio CD--and you can play it in any DVD drive
or player.
The beauty of Roxio's templates and the way the new, integrated versions
of MyDVD Express and MyDVD guide you in turn through the DVD authoring
process make the task easy. Plus, the suite adds some nice image editing,
organizing, and secure Web sharing capabilities (via its PhotoSuite and
LiveShare components, respectively).
Roxio includes the robust, full-featured Backup MyPC and adds a new, simpler
Backup component for uncompressed file backups to disc or hard drive,
which takes care of my only gripe from previous versions.
Roxio remains very friendly for beginners and produces prettier DVDs, and
is also very easy to learn.
Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 9 is still your best bet for easily producing
professional-looking DVD projects or making DVD music discs.
Install and Setup
Purchasing this program may present an opportunity for many folks to
upgrade software that may already be on their system, especially if they
purchased an OEM system that includes a CD-RW drive. Since Roxio has
worked deals with so many hardware system manufacturers to bundle their
software on these machines, readers may already have an earlier version of
this super program. However, unless you were explicit when ordering your
system, to purposefully include this latest version 9, then this
newest release may be an upgrade for you.
For folks purchasing CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-RW drives with merely the necessary
drivers required for the drive to operate, then very likely you will not
have any version of Easy Media Creator at all. In this case, this latest
version 9 will present a slew of new possibilities to maximize
the potential of these drives.
